I think I'm starting to get the hang of this grad school thing after two weeks of classes. At first, I was completely freaked by the massive reading lists but now I realize that it's not quite as bad as I thought as long as I at least attempt to keep up. I had my Immigration and Ethnicity class tonight. Interesting but there were a few too many grandiose statements by philosophizing grad students about the deep theory of integration and assimilation. It was fun for about the first twenty minutes but then got a little tedious. Should be better since we start studying specific ethnic and racial groups next week. I also have US Local History and the general theory class. Haven't yet figured out if they are going to be enjoyable or not.
On Monday, I got back from visiting John in Pennsylvania. His new town, apartment, and college are great. He even let me drag him on a historical canal tour. It was so hard to leave...stupid, stupid long distance...grrr.
Blah...should be reading for class but a political analysis of the progressive era holds little appeal right now.
